Quilmes Mitigol

Quilmes with their agency +Castro reinvented the classic game of foosball. In its new version they enabled Argentinians and Brazilians to play each other in real-time through a custom made digital foosball table.

Dubbed as “Mitigol”, one half of the table was placed in Argentina and the other half in Brazil. During the game, players could see their opponent via special in-built video cameras that further enhanced the real time experience of the game. As a prize, Quilmes gave away free beer.

Berocca Mechanical Desk

A survey made by TNS Gallup in Argentina showed that 5 out of every 10 Argentineans suffer from stress and that they expressed the need of a 5 to 10 minute break during the working day. So Berocca (vitamin tablets manufactured by Bayer) setup a “Mechanical Desk” and challenged passersby to send a tweet within 24 seconds of sitting on it. Sounds easy? Well, not really…

Absolut Unique Access

In October, Klik (a chocolate snack) was the first brand to use WhatsApp to increase brand engagement amongst its teen audience.

Now a month later, Absolut Vodka in Argentina has decided to use WhatsApp as well. This time to invite people to an exclusive launch party. To build awareness and engagement with people in Buenos Aires, Absolut created “Sven the doorman”. Interested people had to then contact Sven via WhatsApp and convince him to give them access to the party. Since he was not easy to convince, the people had to become creative. The results…

Social Robots

In 2011, Andes Beer in Argentina used robots in their campaign to enable people to virtually experience a real life event. Fast forward to 2013 and the social robots can now be seen in campaigns from Italy and Israel. 😎

Three minutes in Italy

San Pellegrino an Italian brand of mineral water invited their Facebook fans to come and discover the beautiful Sicilian village of Taormina and explore its cobblestone streets via a special webcam and microphone enabled robot that could be controlled by the users from their own computer…

Coca-Cola Summer Love 2013

Coca-Cola Summer Love is THE annual summer event for Israeli teenagers. Unfortunately, not everyone can join the fun. So to bring the experience to those who can’t physically be there, Coca-Cola created a robot that allowed teenagers to be part of the summer camp without leaving their homes. The special robots carried webcams and microphones and were controlled by users who couldn’t physically be there. Users could control the robots and navigate them around the campus, talk with their friends, watch the shows, participate in the competitions and be part of the experience.

The robots were a hit among the teens and the people around welcomed them to the camp, danced with them, sunbathed with them and surprised them. They became the stars of the show, as well as media magnets…

The book that cannot wait

Last month I wrote about Austria Solar’s annual report, whose pages became visible only when exposed to sunlight.

Now Buenos Aires based bookshop and publisher Eternal Cadencia has released ‘El libro que no puede esperar’ i.e. ‘The book that cannot wait’ – an anthology of new fiction printed in ink that disappears after two months of opening the book!

How is that possible? Well the books are silk-screened using a special ink and then sealed in an air-tight packaging that once opened allows the printed material to react with the atmosphere. The result being that after two months, the text vanishes.

In the age of portable electronic readers and e-books, I think this a magical way of adding an element of urgency to reading while motivating readers, promoting authors and at the same time benefiting physical book publishers.

The Rugbeer Machine

Argentina is the country with most football fans in the world. But in their northern Salta province, the New Zealand of Argentina, everybody loves rugby! So Salta Beer set out to give the rugby fans from Salta a live and unique experience.

Their agency Ogilvy Argentina created the first of its kind vending machine that gives rugby players what they want most for doing what they do best i.e. one cold Salta Beer per tackle. 😎

The tweet commercial

Argentina continues to set the standard in creative Twitter campaigns! In this latest campaign, when you visit the Smart Car’s official Twitter account you will think some kid got in there and had his way with the keyboard. Well in reality, its their social media team that has been hard at work to come up with various ASCII art tweets. This has led them to create the worlds first twitter based animated tweet commercial!

Visit the smart Argentina twitter account and hold down the ‘J’ button on your keyboard to see what happens. Alternatively see it on video below…

Coca-Cola “Cheer-o-meter”

To promote the excitement around Copa America 2011, OgilvyAction worked with Coca Cola to set up a giant screen in downtown Buenos Aires for fans to watch their favorite teams and provide unconditional cheer to the Argentinean National Team. But there was a catch. Sound sensors were installed to keep the screen on and if the fans stopped cheering, the screen would go blank. 😎

Power is football

Wunderman Buenos Aires is back with another twitter campaign. This time they have leveraged twitter to create a live infographic for every game played in the Copa America Argentina 2011, the most important football championship in South America.

The official microsite aggregated every tweet about every game, and compiled them into an interactive infographic style interface where one could explore the social interaction through every minute of the match!
