The Erasable Billboard

Today more than 75 million girls across the world are forced to go to work and not school. Most of the time only boys have access to education in less privileged countries. So charity organisation Plan along with CLM BBDO created an erasable billboard with an illustration that could be erased to reveal another illustration. The billboard was put up in a central location in Paris and Berlin. Passersby in both locations were given a chance to make a donation in exchange for a rubber that could be used to erase the drawing. The results…

Donate Your Profile

ActionAid is an organisation committed to many projects, like fighting hunger and poverty. But in Italy it is known primarily for the sponsoring of children.

So to communicate the work of ActionAid with a small media and production budget in Italy, ad agency DLV BBDO came up with the “Donate your Profile” project. Participants donated their Facebook and Twitter profile pictures to the project so that more awareness could be generated for the stories of people ActionAid helped.

The project received support from Radio 105, Radio Deejay, La Stampa, Marc Marquez and many other Italian celebrities and brands. Seeing this many more people joined in and donated their profiles pictures. The project became the 5th most trending topic on Twitter and received over 79 million media impressions.

The talking window

Train passengers who are bored during their travel tend to lean their head against the window. To capitlize on this moment of boredom and promote the Sky Go mobile app, BBDO Germany with the help of Audiva, a company that specializes in bone conduction technologies (i.e. the conduction of sound to the inner ear through the bones of the skull) developed a special transmitter that could be attached to the train window for a completely new form of public transport advertising.

As seen in the below video, these special transmitters released the Sky Go message through an inaudible high-frequency vibration that got translated to sound by the brain.

Smart for two: parKING

Parking in the city isn’t fun. So BBDO Germany turned a regular test drive for the Smart into an interactive parking game based on the age-old game of musical chairs.

During the game an iPhone app was used to play music and direct players around central Berlin. When the music stopped the players had to immedietly find a parking spot. The last team to park and verify their location via a photo upload was eliminated.

The competition was run at the Berlin Smart center, where 8 teams battled each other to become Berlin’s first parKING’s. The result…

The ‘Delite-O-Matic’ sampling machine

Interactive vending machines are a great way to get consumer participation and engagement on ground. There are tones of examples out there, of which some have been covered here and some archived on SunMatrixTV. In this latest example ad agency Clemenger BBDO Adelaide has set out to see how far people will go for a free pack of Fantastic Delites (snack food).

So a machine dubbed the “Delite-O-Matic” was created, that gave people a free pack of Fantastic Delites by means of pushing a button hundreds of times or performing challenges. It was then put out on the streets to prove that because Fantastic Delites taste so good, people would go to incredible lengths to get them. Well, they weren’t wrong if this video is anything to go by… 😎

Valentine’s Flight Seat Challenge

Brazilian airline GOL created this Facebook campaign to grow its online community and raise brand awareness in a highly competitive airline market. Their ad agency AlmapBBDO had the insight that a trip is the most romantic Valentine’s gift to receive.

So during the Valentines weekend they launched a competition in which a series of images containing empty seats were uploaded on the company’s Facebook wall, without warning. The first users to see the image and comment the seat numbers won a pair of return tickets to any of GOL’s destinations.

In span of three days, the Facebook community grew from 12,000 to over 200,000, thereby becoming number 1 in their category.
