A cover that turns an iPod into an iPhone

The Apple Peel 520 is a silicone rubber case that wraps around an iPod touch and straps it to a SIM card slot, a dock connector, and a battery. It is produced by startup Yosion Technology and is tentatively priced at US$60, which is almost 13 times cheaper than the official retail price for the Apple iPhone on the Chinese mainland.

The gadget was invented by a 24-year-old Chinese graduate Pan Yong who felt it “inconvenient to have a mobile and an iPod Touch at the same time.”

To enable calling and texting, users would have to jailbreak their iPods and install the Yosion and YsSMS apps.

Start your car from virtually anywhere!

Car owners can now do away with their clunky car remote control on their keyring. All they need now to remotely control the car is an iPhone or iPod Touch; using the new Viper SmartStart app in conjunction with the Viper system in the car.

The graphical interface of the app gives you control over the following features:

  • Lock/arm
  • Unlock/disarm
  • Remote car starter
  • Trunk release
  • Panic or car finder

Here is a short demo video of the app:

The same app is also available for blackberry users. For more details on the apps and the Viper system visit the Viper SmartStart web site.

Now translate text in photos

The Google Goggles uses Google’s machine translation technology and image recognition capabilities to create an additional layer of useful context. So if the user takes a photo from his Android device, the application will translate the text in the photo in a fraction of a second! Currently it only supports German-to-English translations.

I can’t wait to the see the day when Google comes up with a realtime voice translation device. We will never need to learn another language. 🙂

12 Days of Christmas

Is it just me or is Christmas this year turning out to be very Apply 🙂

Here is Apple making Christmas news again…this time with their new TV ad…

The ad reworks the standard Christmas carol of the same name to feature twelve iPhone applications related in some way to the holiday season…

DearSteveJobs.com

Ad agency Forsman Bodenfors have come up with an innovative way of getting Apple boss Steve Jobs to approve the iPhone app created for Swedish television broadcaster SVT.

DearSteveJobs.com

The web site simplifies the approval process…all Steve Jobs needs to do is press the green button and record a video of himself saying “JA” (that’s “yes” in Swedish, pronounced “yah”). 😎
